Professional Biography
Sharif Sheikh joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas as an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Fall 2026. Before joining UT Dallas, he held faculty positions at East Texas A&M University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. He also undertook postdoctoral research at Southern Methodist University and Arizona State University and held engineering positions in industry in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Bangladesh. Dr. Sheikh's academic research and industry collaborations have resulted in more than 10 U.S. patents, 112 journal articles and refereed conference papers, and 30 completed funded research projects. He is a Fellow of IET (formerly IEE) and a Senior Member of IEEE. Dr. Sheikh has received multiple university awards recognizing excellence in teaching, academic advising, and the use of instructional technology. Throughout his academic career, he has supervised, co-supervised, or examined 28 graduate theses in electrical engineering and mentored 20 undergraduate capstone projects.
