Additional Information

QUALIFICATIONS

I have a multi-faceted background in the field of education. I have been an elementary and middle school teacher, and I am reading specialist (Texas certified in elementary, all-level ESL, and professional reading specialist). At the University of Texas at Dallas, I have had the opportunity to help develop an elementary certification program and teach in my areas of interest, which include reading and children’s literature. Through the University of North Texas I had the opportunity to teach a wide variety of courses in elementary, secondary, and reading teacher education for certification at both the Masters and Undergraduate levels. I have also worked as a reading diagnostician at the Child and Family Resource Clinic. In addition, I have been a “Professional Development School Scholar,” thus teaching and supervising student teachers in two of UNT’s Professional Development School programs (Dallas and Ryan High School). My concentration in linguistics and experience in developmental education have framed my concern for diversity issues in the field of education. I have worked successfully with diverse student populations and have done research in this area.
