Business Prof Explores How Much Trust is Enough
A classroom full of students sat behind desktop computers in a School of Management computer lab recently making business decisions and wondering whether they could trust one another. As students role-played the parts of manufacturers and suppliers in an online simulation, they calculated each decision as if they were playing chess. Taking learning beyond the classroom, Professor Özalp Özer offered these students an intriguing blend of teaching and research by simulating real-life business challenges with a game of trust, the subject of his National Science Foundation-funded research.
JSOM Profs Bring Data-Driven Business Perspective to Healthcare Operations
By securing an undisclosed amount of funding from one of the nation's leading healthcare systems to jump-start research into data-driven medical decision making, a Naveen Jindal School of Management professor has once again strengthened the reputation of the school and UT Dallas as go-to partners for innovation at the cutting edge of the changing global economy.Dr. Özalp Özer, Ashbel Smith Professor of Operations Management, will collaborate with University Hospitals of Cleveland to develop technology that can more easily extract valuable information from electronic medical records. The goal is to help healthcare providers optimize medical decisions that can improve healthcare outcomes for patients while also improving operational efficiencies.
Jindal Professors Earn NSF Grants for Operations Management Studies
Two professors in the Naveen Jindal School of Management’s operations management program — Dr. Alain Bensoussan and Dr. Özalp Özer — recently were awarded grants by the National Science Foundation.“We are especially pleased to have two research grants from the National Science Foundation awarded to our faculty in recent months,” said Dr. Hasan Pirkul, dean of the Jindal School. “Our faculty and our centers, such as the International Center for Decision and Risk Analysis, are solving real-world problems relevant to the industry’s needs of today.”
Bensoussan, professor of risk and decision analysis and Ashbel Smith Professor, was awarded a $208,559 grant in August for a project titled “New Problems in Mean Field Control Theory.”
