UT Dallas Spinoff Receives $250,000 From State Tech Fund
Cirasys Inc., a spinoff company based on technology developed by researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas, recently received $250,000 from the Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF).If certain milestones are met, the company could receive up to $750,000 more, said Paul Nichols, vice president of marketing at Cirasys and a UT Dallas alumnus (BA’95, MBA’98).
Located at UT Dallas’ Venture Development Center, a facility that houses several UT Dallas spinoff companies, Cirasys is focused on developing next-generation digital control and conversion technology for power converters. Power converters take power from a source, such as a wall plug or battery, and convert it to a voltage that is needed by a particular electronic device.

University Remembers Dr. Louis “Bob” Hunt, Jonsson School Founding Professor
Dr. Louis “Bob” Hunt, professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering who conducted research for NASA and helped launch the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas, passed away Jan. 28. He was 78.Hunt was known for his pioneering work in the 1980s that paved the way for dynamic control systems that make operations such as automated flight control possible. Hunt, who retired in 2009, was a beloved instructor who received in 2003 a UT System Chancellor’s Council Outstanding Teaching Award. He was also a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
