Represents the breadth of clinical and scientific specialties sharing a common interest in the application of neuromonitoring (IONM) for nervous system preservation during spine surgery. Dedicated to advancing high quality, ethical, evidence- and value-based IONM for patients and other stakeholders. Develops and participates in educational opportunities for dissemination of knowledge regarding best practices related to IONM. Advocates for practice models that maintain quality and reduce costs in the ever-changing healthcare environment.

Projects

Effect of Dexmedetomidine on Motor Evoked Potentials in the Adult Population: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
2023/01–2023/12 Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is commonly used as an adjunct to total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) to help reduce intraoperative consumption of propofol and opioids. However, the effect of DEX on transcranial motor-evoked potential (TCeMEPs) monitoring has remained controversial due to the covariances of dosage used, the presence of initial bolus, patient population, and duration of anesthesia. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effect of DEX on TCeMEPs amplitude in the adult population by analyzing different DEX dosage infusion groups interacting with different covariances.
Facial Nerve Monitoring During Parotidectomy
2020/01–2023/05 IONM helps reduce post-operative facial nerve weakness post-parotidectomy and should be employed during parotidectomy., quantitative, stress, non-REM sleep.
The Frequency of Motor Evoked Potential Alerts During Lumbar Spinal Surgeries
2019/01–2021/03 Spinal surgery is associated with a high rate of neurological sequelae due to damage to the spinal nerve roots. This study aims to determine the most common alert type during lumbar spinal surgeries, including either anesthetic/physiological, positioning, or surgical.
Benefits of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM) for the Localization, Mapping, and Resection of Tumors in the Fourth Ventricle: A Literature Review
2022/01–2023/05 The goal of this literature review is to investigate the different types of IONM modalities that have been recorded in the available literature to play a substantial role in surgical procedures involving fourth ventricular tumors and emphasize the importance and the protective critical role that using a multimodality IONM protocol could play in this type of surgeries. Furthermore, it discusses the possible causes, symptoms, statistics, different types of fourth ventricular tumors, and the neuroanatomy delineating this crucial ventricular region.
